Outside Plant Testing & Consulting

Rigorous testing and expert consulting for the outside plant to support complex and evolving networks

To meet the growth rate of FTTP, DSL, and VoIP, an outside plant infrastructure is needed that can support a network embedded with new products, systems, and provisioning processes. As new products are developed to support these complex networks, service providers must ensure that their product and systems investments will perform under the most trying circumstances.

Our outside plant testing and consulting services help service providers determine the best new products for deployment so they can undertake product election based on many factors including price, availability, performance, reliability analysis, and testing.

Product tests are performed to:

  • Determine if materials can withstand exposure to ultraviolet light or ozone present in the air near commercial facilities
  • Evaluate how equipment and its contents will perform in case of a fire
  • Assess if equipment samples meet applicable FCC, NEC, UL, and OSHA requirements
  • Verify alarms for possible intrusions, temperature fluctuations, and abnormal general equipment operating status
  • Determine if proper corrosion protection is used on all materials to ensure that equipment is damage free after potential exposure to chemicals in the outside plant environment
  • Evaluate if equipment meets aesthetic, safety, and acoustic requirements
  • Determine if equipment can withstand extreme temperatures and wind forces
  • Determine whether products will have transmission capabilities to support offered and planned services
  • Evaluate product ease of use for installation and maintenance and repair by service provider staff
  • Ensure the products have appropriate service life
  • Review the ability of products to be able to expand to meet future needs
  • Determine interoperability with other network equipment

Our product qualification test program helps determine how new products will perform against Telcordia published generic requirements (GRs) and other general, mechanical, and environmental requirements. In addition our product qualification also includes specific criteria which are requirements of the service providers.
