Telcordia® Device Registry

A Next Generation Centralized Registry of Mobile Devices

Device Registry Overview

The use of stolen mobile phones and counterfeit or unauthorized mobile devices is on the rise. Unfortunately, current mobile device tracking solutions, such as those involving traditional Equipment Identity Registers (EIRs) that tend to rely on static data, are not always able to significantly deter mobile theft and its fast-moving criminals.

Device Registry can help. A next generation centralized registry of mobile device data, it maintains extensive and constantly updated information on handsets, including IMEI-IMSI-MSISDN triplets for all networks, with cross-references to the national number portability database. As such, it helps operators provide more effective anti-theft services, such as immediate device blocking when a SIM card is replaced, and it enables powerful 'fingerprinting' and analytics capabilities.

Device Registry data can be accessed by all mobile service providers within a country, as well as by law enforcement. The result can include not only reduced mobile theft and an advantage in the pursuit of criminals, but also an increase in the collection of customs duties and tax revenue, as the ability to circumvent these fees via counterfeit phones is lessened.

What is Device Registry?

Device Registry is a next generation centralized national mobile device registry that can help prevent mobile theft. It stores a broad set of handset-related information, including mobile telephone number and device ID.

Key features include:

  • Comprehensive interface integration. Combines government, operator, public, and device manufacturer interfaces, cross-referencing them with the national number portability database and global blacklists such as the GSMA IMEI database for a broad range of tracked information.
  • Complete solution. Our end-to-end solution comprises software which includes analytics to detect and block cloning and IMEI reprogramming countrywide, as well as hardware, consulting, designing, planning, building, and operations with the capability to host the registry locally.
  • Flexible business models. Financing structure options range from outright purchase to a transaction-based model that can be paid over time via subscriber and operator fees. Device Registry Architecture Click image to enlarge
