Mobile Network Optimization
Mobile technology and QoS expectations never stand still. That's why Telcordia researchers have been evolving the award-winning Telcordia® Auto RF product to support emerging mobile technologies and users.
Telcordia Auto RF was honored in the marketplace because it successfully addresses the key mobile network concerns of capacity and QoS. This innovative software was not designed to be a set-it-and-forget-it tool. As Radio Frequency (RF) network usage shifts and/or interference occurs, this active system responds in real time by optimizing cell site parameters.
Now, Auto RF is being adapted for next-generation CDMA and international UMTS standards to make mobile voice, data, and video services even more reliable -- fewer dropped calls, more consistent handoffs, and high percentages of call completions.
Innovation in Action
- One important product improvement involves modifying Auto RF algorithms to enable remote antenna tilt adjustments. In some networks and geographic locations, mobile usage changes dramatically with time-of-day and day-of-week. The new Auto RF will be able to alter antenna tilt settings dynamically to match coverage with user behavior.
- Auto RF is also being adapted for emerging technologies that significantly improve UMTS data communications: High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) for sending data, and High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) for sending and receiving.
Innovation on the Horizon
- We see WiMAX compatibility as an important, future capability for Auto RF. By improving the quality of multimedia transmissions over RF networks, WiMAX-enabled Auto RF should help to reduce capital and operating costs and boost revenues for network operators.
